Nordic Girl Championship 2024

Reykjavik, April 26th-28th 2024

The Icelandic Chess Federation has the honour and pleasure to invite to the Nordic Championship for Girls in Reykjavik April 26th – April 28th ,2024.

We kindly ask you to submit the registration no later than March 26th, 2024. We are looking forward to seeing you in Reykjavik and hope that the tournament and stay will be enjoyable. We also ask you so send us information about estimated number of people on February 26th.

Playing hall

The playing hall will be in the Reykjavik Chess Club, founded in 1900 and the oldest chess club in Iceland. The venue has hosted many of the main Icelandic events through the decades, including the Reykjavik Open.

The club is in the same building as the Icelandic Chess Federation so there is plenty of space for everyone. Total 900 sqm.

Distance to the venue is 1,5 km. Around 15-20 minutes’ walk. It is also possible and easy to take a bus from the hotel to the venue.

Prizes are as follows for three nights including breakfast per person.

  • Single rooms: ISK 65.200
  • Double rooms: ISK: 39.850
  • Triple room: ISK 29.400
Meals

The organizers are offering for free the final meal of the tournament (Sunday dinner). The organizers will also offer coffee, tea, juice, and fruits complementary for players and accompanying persons during the tournament.

The organizers offer full board during the tournament inside the playing venue (homemade very good food mostly done by our people). Total prices for full board; 2 lunches (Saturday and Sunday) and two dinners (Friday and Saturday) are ISK 10.000. It is not possible to buy single meals.

Tournament rules

FIDE Laws of Chess.

Five rounds using the Swiss system. Each player gets 90 minutes with 30 seconds increment per move. The default time will be 15 minutes. Any player arriving 15 minutes after the start of the round will lose their game unless the Cheif Arbiter decides otherwise.

The tournament consists of three age groups:

Class A, players born 2004 or later Class B, players born 2008 or later

Class C, players born 2011 or later

Live transmission

All chess games will be transmitted live with DGT boards.

Registration

According to the rules of the tournament every nation can send two players in every group and the host nation can send up to 49% of the players in each group.

The organizers accept that Nordic nations may send more players than two in every group but the organizers kindly ask federations to send estimated numbers of players in every group no later than February 26th.
